Child Care Fees for Children under Six Reduced to $22 per Day

As part of the Government of Canada’s Toward $10-a-day Child Care Plan, licensed child care centres participating in the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) system, supported by the City of Greater Sudbury, have reduced parent fees to a capped rate of $22 per day for children under the age of six.
This reduction, which took effect in January 2025, is aiding over 2,600 families in Greater Sudbury. Currently, 3,300 children aged 0 to 5 are enrolled in licensed child care spaces at these reduced fees.
Additionally, the Child Care Subsidy program continues to be available to families with low and moderate incomes. Where applicable, subsidized parent fees have also been reduced.
In 2021, full-day child care fees for children aged 0 to 5 ranged from $41.50 to $72 per day. The new rate represents an average reduction of 52.75 per cent for families. Rates are expected to be further reduced to achieve the $10-a-day goal by 2026.
